Within this IEEE ITSS Germany Chapter Distinguished Lecture Series 2026, Prof. Jack Haddad (Technion) will give a talk entitled “Smarter Traffic Signal Control: Bridging Theory and Real-World Deployment“.
The talk will cover topics including:
- The environmental and economic impact of urban traffic congestion on modern cities.
- Real time feedback based Max Pressure control, enabling adaptive signal control for scalable deployment.
- Practical implementation using low cost sensing technologies, including Bluetooth based traffic monitoring.
- Data driven optimization through the Google Green Light project, leveraging large scale trajectory data to reduce emissions without additional infrastructure.
- Bridging theory and practice by combining real time control and offline learning for deployable, next generation traffic management strategies.
